This section of my website contains directions to the Washington School of Photography. You have the URL to this section of my pages because you are considering or will be coming to the WSP for a workshop or to model for a workshop or to have me photograph you or someone with you. I believe the directions are quite straightforward and clear, and should be self- explanatory. The text description is the easiest way to get there from almost anywhere in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area and is first, followed by a map of the local area showing exactly where WSP is located. Directions to the WSP:
1) From Virginia and the Washington Beltway (I-495):
From the north: If you are coming south on Interstate 270 stay to the left when you get close to the Washington beltway (I-495), and take the fork towards Bethesda/Silver Spring. Do not get onto I-495!!! As you get close to I-495, you will see a lane on the LEFT that exits unto Route 355 (Wisconsin Ave). Stay to the left and continue south on Wisconsin Avenue (Wisc. Ave = MD Route 355) towards Bethesda ( = towards DC). Continue as described under Details.
If you are on the Washington beltway, Interstate 495, exit onto Wisconsin Ave (Rt. 355) going south on Wisc. Ave towards Bethesda ( = towards DC). Continue as described under Details.
Details: As you go south on Wisconsin Ave and pass the National Institutes of Health on the right side of Wisconsin Ave (Bethesda Naval Hospital on the left) you are close to the Woodmont turnoff (to the right, no traffic light) that takes you to Rugby Ave. Woodmont turns off Wisconsin Ave on the right, then straightens out and runs parallel to Wisconsin Ave. one block to the right (west). (Note: If you miss the Woodmont turnoff, continue on about 100 yards further on Wisconsin Ave to the traffic light at Battery Lane, turn right and go one block to Woodmont and turn left onto Woodmont.)
Continue on Woodmont past the traffic light at Battery Lane to the next street on the right which is Rugby Ave. Turn right onto Rugby Ave. The Washington School of Photography is located in Bethesda at 4850 Rugby Ave., about one and one-half blocks from the backside of the Holiday Inn-Bethesda. (Note: The front of the Holiday Inn faces Wisconsin Ave/Route 355.) The closest intersection to the School on Rugby is Auburn Ave. The studio where I will be teaching the workshop is on the ground floor at 4850 Rugby Ave.
In Bethesda, parking meters are active until 10:00 PM and all day Saturday on the street, and they are vigorously enforced, so if on a weekend I recommend parking in the three story county parking garage just 1/2 block away. Those meters are generally not active on Saturday. Main entrance to the lot is off of Woodmont Ave., but there is also a back entrance off of Rugby Ave just down the street from the school.
